March 12 - May 29
Advanced Techniques For Painting Birds With Watercolor
Get to the next level of your painting practice in this personalized mentorship workshop.
Begins Thursday, March 12, 2026, with the last critique session held on May 29, 2026.
During this 12-week mentorship workshop hosted on Zoom, Susannah will demonstrate techniques used in her large watercolor bird paintings. Ideally, each artist will work on a personal painting, choosing their own subject matter, while following along in the demos. You also have the option of using her references and painting what is on her easel, essentially creating a “master copy.”.
All stages of the technical and creative process will be discussed, including planning, composition, color mixing and manipulation, creating texture and mark making, designing a more finished painting, etc.
Individualized in-depth critiques of your work make this a truly unique workshop experience. One-on-one critiques are hosted every other week, giving you a chance to review the current demo, apply it to your work, and then get personalized guidance as you progress through to create a finished painting over the 12-week mentorship.
During the first day of the workshop, Susannah helps students with ideation and creating a reference from a combination of sources to create a dynamic composition as well as address any preliminary concerns with the reference before beginning the artwork. This workshop is a back stage pass into Susannah’s studio and a deep-dive into her process throughout the spring.
Limited to 10 students. Students will have access to full recordings of the demos and critique sessions for 90 days after the workshop ends.
March 12 session will be 12pm to 5pm for orientation and demo. The demos continue every other Thursday 1 pm to 4pm. Personalized critique sessions are held Thursdays and Fridays in alternate weeks. The time slot booking information is provided during Orientation.
A supply list and full schedule will be emailed to students in late January.
